The High-Performance programs at CourtSense are designed for the players that show extraordinary passion, desire and ability for the sport of tennis.

We have worked with students who have become ranked ATP and WTA players, US Olympians, as well as many college scholarship athletes.

Our High Performance Coaches, in collaboration with our fitness staff and a sports psychologist have developed a program that maximizes all our athletes’ strengths both on and off court.

The high-performance groups are filled by invitation only. Each player that joins a high-performance group must be committed to lead by example, practice with high intensity and be willing to get better on daily basis.

The 39-week program is highly structured and is divided into macro cycles that address the technical, tactical, physical, emotional and mental aspects of the game of tennis.

Each macro cycle is divided in three meso cycles: specific, pre-competitive and competitive.

Specific Preparation or Technical Cycle (4-5 Weeks)

This period mainly focuses on the technical aspect of the game. It focuses on how the players are executing their ground strokes, volleys and serves. Emphasis is also placed  on the specific footwork for each shot. It is during this cycle that each player gets to work on the specific needs that he/she has. Through hand and racket feeding we isolate the player in order to change, correct, or adjust the strokes/footwork of each player.

Pre Competitive Cycle (3-4 Weeks)

In this period, there is still a great deal of focus  on the technical aspect of the game, but at the same time the players start live ball hitting with the coaches and among each other.  Through different drills the players are made accountable about the placement of the ball and even more important their positioning on the court.

Competitive Cycle (3-4 Weeks)

In this period, the main focuses are the decision making and also rituals between points as well as competitive aspect of the sport.  During this time the players get to compete with certain goals and limitations.  Different scenarios are created in order to see how the players react under certain circumstances and how they deal with the pressure of competing.

A FEW OF OUR PRESENT AND PAST STARS
CHRISTINA McHALE

CHRISTINA McHALE

Christina worked with CourtSense from 2006 through October, 2011, and from 2012 to 2013. We’re very proud of the fact that at the end of 2010, she achieved a WTA ranking of #106, which made her the highest ranked player for her age or younger in the world, and in the following years she got as high as #24 in the World. At the young age of 18 she had some very impressive results, including wins over Melanie Oudin, Victoria Azarenka, and Nadia Petrova.

Christina was the youngest girl in 2006 to receive a Wild Card invitation to the Junior US Open after winning the 18’s National Clay Court Championship. She won a Wild Card tournament and received an invitation to play in the 2009 Australian Open Singles tournament. After that match, she went on to win the Junior Australian Open Doubles title. The same year, she won the 18’s National Hard Court Championship title, earning her a Wild Card into the 2009 US Open.

At the US Open, she handily won her first match against the 81st-ranked player in the world 6-3, 6-1. This earned her the tremendous opportunity to play Maria Sharapova in a featured night match in Ashe Stadium, televised on ESPN during prime time. Her 2009 US Open debut ended that night, but at the time it showed millions of viewers of what was about to come.

Christina’s highest ranking was 24 in the world in 2012. She was a member of the 2012 US Olympic Team as well as the being a member of the US Fed Cup Team a number of times. She has had two impressive wins over Caroline Wozniacki while she held the #1 ranking in world, a win over the 2011 Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitová while ranked #2 in the world and a win over the 2013 Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli at the US Open. CourtSense will always be a home to Christina as she keeps striving for success on the pro WTA tour.

BERNARDA PERA

BERNARDA PERA

Over the past 5 years Bernarda has spent significant time training with our CourtSense team at our High Performance facility in Bogota.  She first came to us as one of the most promising juniors from Croatia and with committed work and laser focus was able to keep progressing at all stages by first competing in the junior Grand Slams, and then starting in the “minor leagues” of pro tennis where she had great success and set herself up for a great 2017 and 2018 where this year has been highlighted by her reaching the 3rd round of the main draw of the Australian Open and playing the main draw of both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.  This summer she reached her highest ranking of #68 on the WTA tour, and we hope that she keeps being able to progress up the rankings and bring her signature smile wherever she competes.
MATIJA PECOTIC

MATIJA PECOTIC

Matija Pecotic first came to Courtsense during his final year at Princeton University in 2013. While at Princeton, Matija become the only tennis player in the history of the Ivy League to win Player of the Year honors three years in a row (2010-2011, 2011-2012, & 2012-2013) as well as being award All-Ivy League honors each of his four years. He was a four-time recipient of the Leon Lapidus Memorial Award (2010-2013) and is only one of three tennis players at Princeton to be chosen as an ITA All American in 2013. At one point during his senior year he ranked as high as #2 on the ITA College singles ranking. Upon graduating, Matija took his talents to the ATP circuit where in one year he went from a singles ranking of 1674 (2013) to 580 (2014). 2015 season was even a better year, as he won 4 different future level tournaments and finished the season with his first $75,000 ATP Challenger final in China which had brought him his highest ranking of #207 on the ATP singles ranking list. His incredible rise in the rankings has been a great inspiration for the whole CourtSense Team and we are proud to have a player like him represent CourtSense on and off the court.  Last year Matija decided to stop his pro career as he got accepted in the Harvard Business School where he should be receiving his MBA in the spring of 2019.
KARL POLING

KARL POLING

Karl is one of our most talented players. He started with CourtSense, along with his sister Lilian 5 years ago and has never ceased to amaze us with his passion and skill. At the age of 15, Karl won a Grade 5 ITF tournament in Canada; and got as high as top 150 juniors in the world.  Karl is a Blue Chip on tennisrecruiting.net; this is the most prestigious ranking given; and it placed Karl within the top 20 college recruits in his class. Karl is not only a force on the tennis court, he is academically gifted, and achieved extremely high grades despite the amount of travel and training required of him. This summer he also achieved a world ATP ranking in both singles and doubles and also committed to Princeton University.
STEPHANIE YAKOFF

STEPHANIE YAKOFF

Stephanie Yakoff is one of our most focused and goal oriented players. At 12 years old, she has already established tennis as one of her priorities. Training both with the USTA and CourtSense, she has had tremendous success in all of her endeavors, and is currently one of the most promising players in the whole of US in her age. She has won a few national titles and has held the #1 ranking in the US for girls 12&under. We are extremely proud to have Stephanie on the CourtSense team, and know she will continue to amaze with her hard work and determination.
MATTHEW CHE

MATTHEW CHE

Matthew Che, one of CourtSense most tenured students, is a great source of pride for us! At 17, his ambitions are to get a great college education, with the hopes of becoming a professional player. Matthew has been playing since he was 7 years old, and joined the CourtSense family more than 8 years ago. Although he does participate in the highest level USTA national tournaments, in the past few months Matthew spends most of his time traveling the country and world playing ITF tournaments. Tennis is Matthew’s number 1 passion, but at all times you will catch him watching all sports, especially his second great love being baseball. We are so happy to spend our days with Matthew watching him grow on and off court, and waiting to see where he will continue his education and tennis!
